Funny Because It's Real

Improv Workshop with Mats Eldøen

100 Canadian dollars
Napier Street

Service Description

Sunday June 7th 6PM - 9PM For intermediate to experienced improvisers This workshop is built around one core idea: that performers who are fully present and committed will always be more interesting, and funnier, than performers trying to be clever. Through a series of exercises and scene work, participants will explore how conviction can be the primary engine of comedic truth in improvisation. When you believe where you are, who you're with, and what matters to you - improvisation becomes easier and more fun. We will work on: - Reading and responding to your partner rather than managing the scene - Using commitment as a comedic tool - Allowing meaning and humour to emerge rather than be constructed The session combines focused exercises, paired scene work, and structured reflection. It is designed for improvisers who already have a working foundation and want to deepen their instincts for genuine play. About Mats: Mats Eldøen is Artistic Director of Det Andre Teatret in Oslo, one of Norway's leading professional improvisational theatre companies. He has worked across Norwegian theatre for over two decades as a director, writer, and performer, with productions at Oslo Nye Teater, Teatret Vårt, Brageteatret, Haugesund Teater, and Dansens Hus, among others. His work spans children's theatre, physical performance, musical theatre, and long-form improvisation. He is the author of several childrens books and has written and directed original productions for a range of Norwegian institutions. Alongside his artistic practice, he is currently completing a degree in psychology at the University of Oslo.
