Service Description
Experience the foundational games and concepts that bring improvisation to life. This five-week course is for anyone who wants to be more spontaneous or connect with others. Conquer fear, embrace positivity, learn to inspire others, create worlds and be transformed, all while having deep belly laughs alongside poignant observations about life. 5 weeks, 10 hours total. November 22nd. - December 20th Sundays 10AM - 12PM Instructor: Rina Shimomura About Rina: Rina(she/her) is a Japanese-born ESL improviser who started in 2012, inspired by Keith Johnstone. On stage, she uses simple English, body language, emotion, and silence to express that communication goes far beyond words. She's taught Impro to businesses, government organisations, families, and children with special needs. In addition, she has experience in translation and academic writing, including Japanese translations of Impro-related books such as A Guide to Keith Johnstone’s Maestro Impro(TM). Her film credits include The Smashing Machine (A24, 2025), directed by Benny Safdie, where she appeared as a Japanese journalist. She has appeared as a keynote speaker and panellist at international events, including the AIN Global Conference, the ITI Gorilla Theatre Symposium, and the Vancouver Improv Festival. She also serves as a board member of ITI North America West, contributing to the global improv community through collaboration, teaching, and international artistic exchange. Mom of 2 kids. Cancellation Policy
Full Refund: If Tightrope needs to cancel a class due to illness, or low registration, you will be refunded in full. If you cancel your registration 1 week or more before the course start date, you will receive a full refund, with the exception of The First Step which is non refundable. Partial Refund: If you cancel your registration within 3-6 days of the class starting you may receive: 100% Credit 50% Refund No Refund: Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the class begins are non-refundable. Exceptions will be made in the case of death, serious injury or serious illness. The First Step is non refundable, however you may switch the date of your registration up to 1 time. *Eventbrite's fees are non-refundable
