For anyone dreaming of taking their improv to the next level, or gaining a deeper understanding of the core concepts so you can play confidently in any style, format, or performance. All courses include a final performance at our monthly student showcase Side Show.

STATUS & CHARACTER

This course will give you tools and training to spontanously create believable and entertaining characters in scenes. We will explore techniques of status and power dynamics, physical acuity, outragous attitudes and more. We will mine the comedic potential of authentic human behaiour, so you can expand your character range and create compelling stories in any improvisational style. Side Show Performance on the final class. 

We will develop skills to make captivating beginnings, what we call the Platform, and how to find a change or Tilt to your scene for maximum impact. We will explore this through game, scene work, genre-based storytelling, and long-form narratives. Gain access to the magical powers that will enhance improvised scene work in any style.

GENRE LAB: IMPROVISED SHAKESPEARE

Learn how to speak the speech! In this class, Brent Hirose, artistic director of The Spontaneous Shakespeare company teaches you the skills that the company has used for almost a decade to create completely improvised Shakespearean plays. Rhyming, poetry, iambic pentameter and the tropes of Shakespeare collide with strong scene building fundamentals and longform story structure. No Shakespeare experience is required, but a willingness to learn and push yourself is essential!

MAESTRO INTENSIVE

For anyone who has completed our Foundations series, Studio classes or equivalent.

 

Come immerse yourself in one of the most popular improvisation formats played around the world. We will guide you through the philosophy and spirit of Maestro, within the structure of a performance. Warm up, Ensemble building, Skills, drills and reps, Run through the format, and post performance notes. Come experience the good nature, support, and spirit of Maestro!

Tightrope Improv Jam

For our Tightrope community and beyond!

If you’ve completed Foundations 1 & 2 with us—or have equivalent performance experience—you’re invited to our monthly community jam & social.

​

We’ll start with a playful, interactive workshop to warm up, experiment, and connect. Then we dive into a “mini maestro,” where you’ll jump on stage and play scenes with guidance from your favourite Tightrope teachers.

Stick around after to mingle, celebrate, and connect with fellow improvisers.
